Mr. Teh Song Lai, FCIS, Shariah RFP (Chief Executive Officer)
With over 29 years of experience in the financial services and capital markets industry, Mr. Teh Song Lai is a seasoned leader who brings exceptional expertise and strategic vision to his role. Since beginning his career in 1995, he has held senior positions at several renowned financial institutions, including Maybank, RHB Investment Bank, and RHB Asset Management, among others. In December 2017, he joined Pheim Unit Trusts Berhad (PUTB), where his leadership and expertise led to his appointment as Chief Executive Officer in May 2018.
In July 2020, Mr. Teh was entrusted with leading Pheim Asset Management Sdn Bhd (PAMSB), where he successfully elevated the organization’s performance and presence during his two-year tenure. In August 2022, he returned to PUTB, drawing on his enriched experience to spearhead growth and innovation.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Teh has demonstrated exceptional capabilities in formulating and executing business strategies, driving asset under management (AUM) growth, and enhancing operational efficiency. His expertise includes fostering a strong compliance culture, advancing cybersecurity initiatives, and nurturing human capital development for effective succession planning. Additionally, his ability to build strategic partnerships with institutional distributors has been pivotal in expanding market share, optimizing costs, and entering new markets.
Mr. Teh graduated from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) and is recognized as a qualified professional with extensive expertise in business management and corporate governance. He holds a professional qualification from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (UK), and is a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA). Additionally, he is a Shariah Registered Financial Planner (Shariah RFP) certified by the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) and a registered Unit Trust Scheme (UTS) Consultant with the Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (FIMM).
Mr. Lee Chan San (Head of Operations)
Mr. Lee Chan San is an accomplished professional in operations with over 18 years of experience in financial and capital market industry. He started his career in business outsourcing centre for insurance services in 1998, and in 2005, he ventured into stockbroking, investment banking and eventually into custodian banking. He has demonstrated expertise in optimising operational efficiency while navigating the complexities of capital markets during his tenure with OSK Investment Bank Berhad in securities settlement, asset servicing, as well as corporate trusts and private debt under OSK Trustees Berhad.
Prior to joining PHEIM Unit Trusts Berhad, he is instrumental as Operations Lead in Local and Global Custody (LGC), Global Securities Operations of Deutsche Bank (M) Berhad from 2012 to 2023. He has streamlined the LGC processes in foreign custody and foreign exchanges transactions covering APAC, EMEA and America. Mr. Lee Chan San has also engaged and improved efficiency in secured transmission for client-sub custodian, from conventional electronic transmission to Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).
Mr. Lee Chan San graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from University Putra Malaysia in 1998 and subsequently obtained his Master in Business Administration from University Putra Malaysia in 2003.
Ms. Tammy Yong Thian Hee (Compliance Officer)
The compliance and risk management functions of PUTB have been delegated to its ultimate holding company, Pheim Asset Management Sdn Bhd.
The Compliance & Risk Management Department is headed by Ms. Tammy Yong Thian Hee who has over 19 years of working experience in the financial services and capital market industry. She has held several senior compliance positions in various financial institutions for over 12 years.
Prior to joining Pheim Asset Management Sdn Bhd, she was the Head of Compliance of a Stockbroking Company, leading a compliance team of 2 compliance executives. Before that, she was the Compliance Manager in an Investment Bank for close to 3 years.
Ms. Tammy graduated with a Bachelor of Business, Major in Accounting from Edith Cowan University, Australia in 1999.
